The ultimate mix of comfort and performance
Dallas had been dreaming of a Ti road bike for a long time. Upon seeing a BMCR-built Bossi, he decided that if he didn't finally do something about it, his dream would never become a reality.
Being a customer for many years, he trusted us to design and build a bike that would match the aesthetic he had in mind. The only criteria was that the bike would need to be robust enough for daily commuting but still offer a level of performance for all-day weekend hills rides.
He gave us a rough budget and we were off!
Why choose a Bossi Summit frame? Because it has very similar excellent on-road ride qualities to the Bossi Strada but with the potential for a more relaxed riding position. (Let's face it, most of us become slightly less bendy as we get older, so the Summit's geometry is very accommodating in this regard.)
We used a Shimano Ultegra groupset as it offers almost the same performance characteristics of its top-end brother Dura Ace but is far more budget-friendly.
We custom-built the wheels with DT Swiss 350 hubs, DT rims and black DT butted spokes. Like the groupset, these wheels offer excellent performance and great durability at an affordable price.
With wheels like this, Schwalbe Durano tyres were the perfect match.
We used Soma compact handlebars because Soma are one of the few companies offering a true 46cm (centre-to-centre) road bar option. Naturally we had to match the bars with a Soma stem. (Hey, custom bikes need to look perfect as well as perform perfectly, right?)
Finally, the build was topped off with an Ergon saddle, because we've had great success with them.
We're pleased to say Dallas is delighted with the result!
"I did a quick ride up to Norton Summit and back and I wanted to let you know that it felt fantastic. Where the bike really came into its own was coming down the hill. There are sections of Norton Summit Rd that are undulating and rough, particularly when you're going quickly. On the old bike I’d be bouncing around, my posture would be awkward because I wouldn’t be able to relax on the seat and at times it would scare the crap out of me. The Bossi, on the other hand, was smooth and just ate up the rougher parts of the road. I flew down there faster than I have ever gone before. There was one special moment coming down where I came around a corner and out of the wind onto a smoother part of the road and the Bossi kind of accelerated by itself, all whisper-quiet and silky smooth, and it felt amazing. Super happy with the bike."
