Why is BMCR's bicycle assembly service different?

Here's a dirty secret from the bicycle industry: most bikes you see have been poorly put together. They're usually just pulled out of the box and slapped into position.

Our philosophy is different.

We start with the frame, and make sure it's properly finished before assembly even begins. Frame facing and preparation are a crucial part of a proper bicycle assembly. We use specialist tools to machine key surfaces — including the bottom bracket shell, head tube and disc brake mounts — so they're flat and square. This helps components fit correctly, reduces the risk of annoying creaks and clicks, avoids premature component wear, and helps everything work as it should. It's a step that's often overlooked, but we wouldn't build a bike without it. (We went into it in much more detail here: frame facing is so important.)

Then we use the highest-quality greases and custom assembly pastes to put your bike together properly.

This process means your bike works beautifully from the moment it rolls out of our workshop, rather than making weird clicks or creaks or needing to come back for niggling issues to be fixed.
