One bike, two wheelsets, unlimited adventures
Ross was looking for a titanium gravel bike, but one that could handle much more than just gravel.
It also needed to be capable for road use, bikepacking, and Audax adventures (ranging from 50 to 1200kms).
Challenge accepted!
Being Bossi's gravel model, a Grit SX was a no-brainer for the frameset choice. Its flexible design means that it can handle multiple terrains and also multiple wheel sizes.
With this in mind, two hand-built wheelsets would allow Ross to easily switch between road and gravel use without having to spend time and energy changing tyres and sealant. #lessfaffmoreriding
The road wheelset was straightforward -- DT Swiss rims and 350 hubs offer great quality at an excellent pricepoint.
For the off-road wheelset, 650b wheels would let us maximise the off-road tyre volume that the Grit will accept. We also laced in a dynamo hub so Ross could recharge his phone while touring, bikepacking or Audaxing. (Is that a verb? It is now.)
For the groupset, a 2X setup was the pick as Ross would be using the bike on-road as well as off-road -- a 2X minimises the jumps between the gears, which is more friendly for road use than having a single chainring at the front.
Ross was concerned about having carbon handlebars with the amount of travelling he does with his bike, so opted for an alloy set instead. The Easton EA70 AX bars were the perfect match, having a slight flare in the drops, which gives greater control in off-road handling. We added durable and grippy Easton Micro tape, with some Pro gel pads underneath for extra long-distance comfort.
