A Surly forged in the fires of availability issues
Joseph had put in an order for a Surly Bridge Club, but with the nightmare that has been happening in the bike industry since the beginning of COVID, the wait just became too much.
What was our alternative? Get a Bridge Club frameset and opt for a custom build.
Joseph was primarily going to be using his bike as an off-road tourer. We opted for a 1X setup to keep things simple (no front derailleur to worry about!) in a Sram Eagle GX groupset.
Hydraulic brakes are always our go-to because they're more reliable and powerful than cables, and the Shimano MT410s are excellent value for money.
A set of hand-built wheels with Alex rims would be strong and durable enough for the demands of long-distance, loaded riding. Teravail Sparwood tyres were also a great addition -- they roll fast on the road but grip well off-road.
Once we fitted Joseph's Brooks saddle and Jones bars, this Bridge Club was ready to start touring.
You know the best part? This full custom build wasn't a lot more than the stock complete bike, but is a far better-quality build and also better value for money.
Want your own full custom build? We can help with that.
