Craig's Surly Disc Trucker

A custom-built tourer designed to go all day, every day

The brief

Craig is a Surly fan.

He was delighted with the singlespeed Steamroller we created for him, and requested another custom build, but this time for a touring bike.

The bike

Surly's Disc Trucker was their flagship touring frame; it's perfect for loaded long-distance riding, and can be set up in multiple ways for ultimate versatility.

The Trucker is normally run as a drop-bar bike, but Craig wanted a more upright position, so we created the build based on a trekking bar setup. (The joy of a customised build, right?)

In contrast to Craig's Steamroller, which is an eye-searing Banana Candy Yellow, this Disc Trucker was going to fly under the radar. Yes, that means black, black, and more black, starting with the frame.

We speced a mixed Shimano 10sp groupset for durability and reliability, and to give a monster range of gears. We then hand-built a set of touring wheels with DT Swiss rims to stand up to the rigours of loaded long-distance riding.

Vivente's trekking bars gave an adjustable riding position, and a BBB saddle and seat post kept things sleek yet comfortable.

Finally, for touring it's hard to go past a pair of ultra-tough Surly Nice Racks.

Bomb-proof, burly and stealthy black, this custom Disc Trucker is Craig's perfect, long-term adventuring partner.

What You Say

You guys are amazing! Best service I have had in a long time in any shop and easily best service I have ever had a bike store. Great communication, listened, reasonable priced. You absolutely nail everything. My friends had all said great things about you and they under-sold the service. Very…Tristan Johnstone
