A tough and durable build, ready for adventure

Lindsay was looking for a steel-framed bike which would be able to handle touring as well as everyday commuting.
The versatile Surly Midnight Special was the perfect base to build this custom project.
First, the groupset. A Deore 2X10 groupset gives a massive gear range to cope with absolutely anything Lindsay could possibly want to ride up (or down). Hydraulic brakes are also a must for low maintenance and extra power, particularly important upon descents when riding a loaded bike.
We opted for a flat-bar configuration to give Lindsay greater control and a more upright position, which is especially comfortable when touring.
A set of SQ-Lab 710 grips offered excellent palm comfort and ergonomics, and the matching 711 Innerbarends (yes, they spell it without spaces, don't ask us why) also give an extra hand position for those long rides.
For the greatest strength and durability, we custom-built a wheelset that could stand up to even the roughest terrain. A set of Schwalbe Marathon Mondials finished them off -- they provide high durability and puncture-resistance, but also roll very well.
The finishing touch: a Brooks saddle, which will mould to Lindsay exactly for ultimate comfort.
The final product is a rock-solid Midnight Special, fun without being frivolous.

It's incredible! From the moment I took it off the bike rack, and put it on the ground, it made zero vibration sounds. Just the sound of raw tyre to brick knock, and a gentle chain clank to the derailleur cage. Gone were the standing-vibrations that rattled throughout the entire bike. I'm…Tom Bammann
