The brief

Karin came to us as she was unsatisfied with her road bike, and looking for a replacement.

She also had a birthday coming up -- and what better way to celebrate than with a new bike?

The bike

To determine which frame would suit best, we looked at Karin on her current road bike and discussed her setup. It was a toss-up between the Bossi Strada -- their dedicated road bike -- and the Bossi Summit, which can handle road rides as well as longer stretches such as touring.

Looking at the geometry and Karin's requirements, the Strada was going to be slightly too aggressive to give her the position she wanted. The more relaxed geometry of the Summit, however, would be ideal. We made the appropriate adjustments to ensure a perfect tailored fit for the project, and we were ready to roll.

A Shimano Ultegra Di2 groupset gave Karin the spread of gears she needed at an excellent price point. (As we always say, if you can go to electronic gears, do it. DO IT.)

For wheels, a lightweight set of Bossi carbon wheels with DT Swiss 240 hubs was perfect in terms of speed and serviceability, paired with a durable set of Teravail Ramparts for road and gravel use.

We also decided to give this Summit a few colour touches to make it extra-special. As red is Karin's favourite colour, we hand-painted the headtube to match, and added a red Garbaruk top cap and some beautiful Ciclovation Velvet Touch bar tape.

The result? A gorgeous forever bike to celebrate a birthday...and many, many more.

What You Say

My bike is smooth as silk and better than new!! It is always a pleasure to ride after a trip to BMCR. Only trouble is I seem to be acquiring more bikes than I can afford to maintain. Maybe I will have to sell one of the children.Bryn Richards
