Designed for road and gravel use, the Surly Preamble has been built for simplicity and durability. It's still nimble on the bitumen but burly enough to take on potholes and fireroads.
Surly have equipped the Preamble with everything it needs for light utility duties. You can whack on mud guards and racks, no problem. It'll also take bottle cages so you don't go thirsty.
For riders on the shorter side, the XS and S frames have a dropped top-tube for extra clearance.
And, of course, that chromoly steel frame (the main triangle is double-butted, donchaknow) will keep the ride smooth for many years.
After all, when you own a Surly, you tend to own it for decades.

- Tyre clearance: XS/S - 650b x 41mm rear, 650b x 42mm fork; M-XL - 700c x 41mm rear, 700 x 42mm fork (with or without mud guards)
