BMCR on Facebook
Did you know...
...most of our customers find us through word-of-mouth recommendations? We're pleased and proud to have our reputation for quality work!
So who are we?
Bio-Mechanist
Pete
BMCR was launched in November 2004, after Peter Hague identified a need for a dedicated premier mechanical servicing bike shop in Adelaide.
Pete has been working in bike shops since he was 15 (and dissecting and re-building bikes since he was 5; we have photographic proof!) and wanted a place where cyclists could feel confident that their bikes were being expertly looked after. Word of Pete’s mechanical skills spread quickly, and within three weeks of BMCR opening its doors, the workshop was booked out a week in advance. It’s been that way ever since*.
* Except during the Tour Down Under; then it’s four weeks in advance. Book early!
Helper Monkey
Lia
After three years of Pete working from sun-up to sun-down, his wife, Lia Weston, was beginning to forget what her husband's voice sounded like. In order to spend some quality time with her beloved (and help ease the workload on the admin side of things), Lia quit her publishing job and joined the shop full-time in July 2007.
Lia handles BMCR's customer service, admin, and marketing, though she will change a tube if you ask her nicely.
After hours, she continues her career as a published writer and tries to find ways to sleep while hanging out the washing.
Andrew
In September 2009, BMCR was delighted to welcome Andrew Field as its second mechanic. Andrew brings BMCR another 20 years of bicycle industry mechanical experience, a Zen-like calm, and shares Lia's obsession with hummus.
Andrew can also be found racing at the AMTBC series as well as taking on adventures such as the Cape Epic, because he's hard-core. And kind of a masochist.
Kif
Kif is BMCR's mascot. Adopted from the Animal Welfare League in the same year that BMCR opened (2004), most people are surprised that he's not a puppy because he's a German Shepherd but is only the size of a border collie.
Kif is known for his gentle nature and insatiable appetite for anchovies. He also looks very good in a hat.
